Last night I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of Margot, a new hot Mediterranean restaurant in Culver City on the rooftop of Platform. Highlights are the views, the cocktails and the oysters. Good music and ambiance – there’s definitely a vibe here!
Huge huge rooftop – this is definitely going to be the hottest rooftop this summer. There is lots of lounge seating, two bars and a few areas to just hang. 360 views of Los Angeles – looking forward to have a lazy brunch or happy hour here.
The vibe is beach meet modern Mediterranean Spanish vibe. The drinks are unique and delicious. I couldn’t pull myself away from the Poma, which gave me a holiday vibe with bourbon, vermouth, ginger and a beautiful dried apple slice as a garnish. Of the passed hors d’oeuvres, the highlight was the tray after tray of delicious plump oysters on the half shell. I think I may have had almost a dozen. Greedy, I know, but I made friends with the servers.
We also couldn’t stop eating these delightful squash fritters. Amazingly light and flavorful pillows with a bright burst of corn. Other highlights were the jamón ibérico – not sure how you can go wrong with this melt-on-your-tongue deliciousness and a simple pan con tomate – decadent oily focaccia topped with pureed tomato and garlic. We didn’t love the sea bream crudo (overly salty) or the fava bean dip with flatbread crackers (could have used some acid and wasn’t anything special).
I would return and want to try the full menu. BUT, being the hungry mama that I am, I must point out that, WE LEFT HUNGRY. Had to grab pizza on the way home. ha!
They also gave us a pretty key in a numbered envelope that will allow us 15% off at Margot and Norah in West Hollywood. Nice touch.
