Just a reminder that I will be interviewed by Iyanla Vanzant on the special Fear Not on Oprah’s OWN Network this Saturday, June 6th at 9 p.m. ET/PT (it’s DirectTV channel 279, Spectrum channel 173 in LA and channel 279 on ATT UVerse).
As I was writing this, I thought about the fact that Fear Not’s premise is around overcoming the stress, anxiety and uncertainty associated with COVID and the tools I and others used to heal from a mental health perspective. Those exact same coping mechanisms are equally applicable to what us as Americans, and particularly us as black Americans, are going through at this precise moment dealing with the deep racial injustice and violence against black Americans in this country. As we go through all of these different types of trauma, I hope that we will each carve out time in our lives for real self-care. We have to make sure we ask ourselves how we are truly doing and seek the support we need during these difficult times.
Others who are dealing with COVID – both in my network as well as strangers who have found me on social media after reading my article – have reached out to me for advice. They ask, how did I get through this? Well, this is really how I did it.
Get ready to be uplifted because I’m a survivor!
In solidarity and with love,
Hilary
